Terrestrials

Above you can see a Mormon Cricket which can be part of the diet for large trout this time of year.  Perhaps more reliable are small hoppers, beetles, and ants.  We fished a beetle on Slough Creek the other day and had lots of fish eat it.  As the grasses get drier by the day, hoppers and ants become more and more important.  We are still seeing a few hatches depending on where you are fishing, but attractors are the name of the game.

**Our streams are warming up, the Park Service has closed the Firehole, Madison, and Lower Gibbon,  which does not affect our fishing much as we don’t fish those streams this time of year anyway.  But we will keep you posted if there are more restrictions put in place.
